The first female Olympian from Singapore participated in the 1952 Games in Helsinki.

Tang Pui Wah raced for Singapore in the 100m and the 80m hurdles. Though she did not make it past the heats, she paved the way for female runners like Janet Jesudason and Mary Klass who qualified for the Olympics four years later.
