Holidaymakers can now rent their own Caribbean island through Airbnb.
“Bird Island” located in Placencia, Belize, is a self-catering, Robinson Crusoe-themed adventure resort aimed primarily at romantic get-aways, family gatherings/reunions or for a small group of friends.
The island promises almost complete isolation and exclusivity and you are promised complete, unrestricted access to the entire resort.
The island’s main house has a master bedroom with a double bed and a couch.
A new separate over-the-water, totally-self-contained cabana is being finished (September 2017).
In addition there is also a separate Cabana available to stay in, with a double-size bed, Sirius radio, desk, etc, (but without cooking and shower facilities), becoming fully self-contained during 2018.
A number of activities are on offer including snorkeling, fishing and a kitchen stocked with a myriad of condiments – although you will have to bring your own food.
A local phone is available so you can call local numbers or the owners at any time. The island also has “very good and reliable Wi-Fi”, according to the Airbnb page.
Bird Island charges R8,161 for a night per couple sharing, with two additional guests adding R2,058. The trip from Placencia Village to Bird Island is included in the booking price.
